Security Engineering on AWS

A three-day course on securing workloads with the AWS security services. It covers the shared security responsibility model, architecting infrastructure against common threats, encrypting data at rest and in transit, configuring authentication for resources and applications, capturing and analysing logs to understand events, running automated and repeatable security checks, and identifying and mitigating threats as they appear.

Prerequisites

This is an intermediate course. To get the most from it, you should have:

  • Completion of AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials, or equivalent knowledge of AWS fundamentals.

  • Completion of AWS Security Essentials, or an equivalent grounding in AWS security concepts.

  • Completion of Architecting on AWS, or equivalent AWS design and architecture experience.

  • Working knowledge of IT security practices and infrastructure concepts.

Learning Objectives

In this course, you will learn to:

  • Apply shared responsibility: Use the AWS shared security responsibility model in practice.

  • Architect against threats: Design application infrastructure protected from common attacks.

  • Encrypt data: Protect data at rest and in transit with appropriate encryption.

  • Control authentication: Configure resource and application authentication on AWS.

  • Analyse logs: Capture, monitor, process and analyse logs to understand security events.

  • Assess and remediate: Run automated security checks and perform assessments for vulnerability patching.
